COUNCIL house tenants in Ashfield will all benefit from double glazed windows by autumn 2013.
Ashfield Homes, which manages properties on behalf of Ashfield District Council, is stepping up its window replacement scheme.
It means that around 850 homes which still have single glazed pvcu windows will be replaced with double glazed pvcu windows
Coun Steve Carroll, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Culture and Housing, said: “We’ve consulted with tenants, and taken enquiries from them regarding the replacement of single glazed windows and have identified funding which has enabled us to speed up the window replacement programme.
“Coupled with ongoing insulation improvement programmes and central heating boiler replacements, this programme will increase the energy efficiency of the council’s housing stock further, reduce carbon emissions, and most importantly help to reduce fuel poverty in Ashfield.”
The council replaced most of its timber, aluminium and steel windows by the late 1990s - but due to limited finances it could only provide single glazing pvcu.
