Homes plan for Mansfield land used as a car park

Land used as a car park in Mansfield could be transformed into 30 homes if planners give it the green light.

Land off Briar Lane has been earmarked for development and an application has been submitted to Mansfield District Council.

Covering more than two hectares, part of the land has been used as a car park by Bannatyne’s Health Club and Spa.

The application is the latest in a string of proposals for the site dating back 10 years.

This includes a development for 30 homes in 2007 and also a 60-bedroom hotel, which was granted in 2008, although none had materialised.

The latest application is from the Radleigh Group and Bannatyne Group which intend to build three and four-bedroom homes of various styles.

It also includes plans for a new access road served from Briar Lane, and access is planned to a children’s play area which forms part of an adjacent housing development.

A spokesman for the applicant said: “The site was underdeveloped until 1957. By 1967 it is recorded as a playing field and the land does not appreciably change.

“In the immediate area, the only development of note is residential housing surrounding the site.”

The application is due before planners in the coming months.
