Hucknall charity figure dies

WELL-known Hucknall stalwart Richard Upton has died at the age of 77 from kidney failure.

Mr Upton, who lived on Moor Road, Papplewick, originated from Long Hill Rise in Hucknall and attended Spring Street Infant and then Beardall Street before being transferred to Henry Mellish Grammar, Bulwell.

He went into the building trade, training as a quantity surveyor, and later ran his own business in property ownership, based at Sutton, until the end of his life.

Mr Upton played cricket with Hucknall United and served as club captain. He was a keen supporter of Nottinghamshire Cricket Club and was also a devoted fan of Nottingham Forest Football Club.

He was a member of Hucknall Round Table then Hucknall Rotary Club and held leading positions with both as well as Hucknall Probus Club.

Mr Upton leaves his wife, Susan, two sons, a daughter, Carolyn, and four grandchildren.
