Drivers visiting Hucknall and its residents will be faced with diversions as they hit the town centre from next week.
Digital signs have been erected at the town gateways warning motorists of the imminent works.
Western Power Distribution are responsible for the works taking place along the main thoroughfare as they update power cables through the town as a continuation of previous works which began last year.
This created chaos in the town as diversions took traffic along Portland Road, Duke Street and Beardall Street to Watnall Road.
“I’ve just heard about the road closures today,” said chairman of We Love Hucknall, Sandy Singleton on Wednesday. “But we know there are going to be continuing disruption in the town centre over the coming months ahead and will continue until the pedestrianisation is completed.
“We don’t have a choice and there is nothing we can do about it but try and stay positive.”
Mrs Singleton heads the group of traders and residents whose aim is to increase business in the town and boost visitor numbers.
“All we ask is that we are told the truth about what to expect in the coming months so we can deal with it.”
Problem parkers have been an issue in the past but Mrs Singleton hopes that the free parking in the town car parks during January could alleviate this situation.
“We know the roadworks caused an awful problem last month but much of this was created by irresponsible parking,” added Mrs Singleton. “Buses couldn’t get through which caused tailbacks through the town.
“I just hope that motorists will try and be more considerate and aware this time.”
The disruptions will commence at 8am on Monday 19th January until Friday 23rd January with diversions via Portland Road – Ashgate Road – Station Road and vice versa.
One way traffic will be in operation from High Street to Ashgate roundabout from Saturday 24th January with an anticipated end date of Monday 16th February with diversion via Ashgate Road – Portland Road.
Works will then continue round onto Linby Lane with an expected completion date of Friday 6th March 2015.
