Amateur dramatic performers from a Hucknall theatre group are hoping to turn professional if they win the parts to share the stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).
Members of the Lovelace Theatre Group, who perform at the town’s John Godber Centre, are auditioning for parts in the RSC’s Midsummer Night’s Dream production as part of the #Dream2016 initiative this weekend.
The professional theatre company have been touring the country and invited numerous amateur groups to participate in acting workshops in city theatres.
James McBride is one of the lucky Hucknall members who has been enjoying all they have to offer.
“It has been brilliant working alongside the professional actors and learning the ropes from them,” said James who was also joined by Pat Richards, Linda Mayes, Rebecca Morris, Daniel Knight, Jen White and Tom Morley. “It is a fantastic opportunity for amateur actors to work with the RSC.”
Following the city auditions, six actors and a director will be selected to play the roles of the Mechanicals when the play is performed in their city or town.
They will also be invited to perform at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon at the end of the tour.
James added: “We are really hopeful we will be selected from the amateur groups taking part this weekend as it will be a wonderful opportunity to perform here in Nottingham not to mention Stratford with such a prestigious company.”
