Hucknall Specsavers set out to educate town's children on eye health- and raise £700 for Comic Relief

Hucknall opticians staff have been busy raising awareness and funds in the community for eye health and Comic Relief- donating more than £700 to the charity.

The team at Specsavers Hucknall visited children at Butler’s Hill Infant and Nursery School last week to talk about the importance of good eye care and donate Comic Relief specs.

Apprentice optical assistant, Ellie Bennett and school’s coordinator, Katie Thompson visited the school as part of the class’ lessons about “people who help us”.

Katie talked about what happens when you visit the opticians and how to care for your eyes and glasses.

“It was fantastic to get the children engaged in what we do, as it’s such an important health message,’ says Katie.

“We also brought 25 pairs of the waving Red Nose Day glasses for the children so that they could get involved in Comic Relief, which they absolutely loved.”

The Red Nose day specs were also sold in store for £2 in aid of Comic Relief.

Customers were encouraged to raise awareness by posting selfies with the specs on to social media with the hashtag #GiveUsAWave.

The team sold tickets to win a selection of prizes in a tombola, including cuddly toys and chocolates, as well as home-made cakes and goodies.

Janet Archer, Hucknall store director, says: “I am immensely proud of the Hucknall team and all their efforts.

“Not only did we raise a whopping £747 in total for a great cause, but we also educated children in the community about eye care which is very important to us and them.
