Andrew O’Grady, 21, of Chesterton Drive, was sentenced to six weeks in jail at Mansfield Magistrates Court on Monday.
The court heard that O’Grady was ejected from the Cornerhouse pub after a disturbance inside the venue, and once outside he continued to attempt to fight other members of the public.
Officers tried to speak to him and calm O’Grady down, but he continued to be aggressive, punching an officer multiple times.
O’Grady was arrested at the scene and pleaded guilty to the offence at court.
Being convicted of this offence also activated a suspended sentence he had received for previous violent offences, meaning he will serve a total of 12 weeks in jail.
Neighbourhood Police Inspector for Worksop Neil Bellamy said: “A police officer’s duty is to help protect the public and help keep them safe.
“He has been assaulted doing his duty and it is only right that O’Grady should be subject to the criminal justice process and receive a custodial sentence.”
