A farewell party was held for Joan Lee at the Carberry surgery on Ragdale Road last Friday.

The practice was inaugurated in 1964 by John Carberry, who continued his involvement until he retired after exactly 39 years.

John said: “It is quite an outstanding record for Joan to have worked at the surgery ever since 1968. She is already very much missed.”

This view was echoed by John’s son, James, who is a dental surgeon at the practice.

He said: “Joan is very highly regarded by all staff and patients. I would like to take this opportunity of wishing her all the best for the future.”

Joan (68) originates from Bulwell and now lives in Wollaton. Her husband, Michael, worked for Hopewells, the furnishers, until his retirement and they have a daughter, Suzanne.

As well as a bouquet, gifts presented to Joan at the party included gardening and other vouchers.

The farewell event had to be postponed from earlier this year because of the time it has taken for Joan to recover from a freak accident.

She and Suzanne were sitting on a wooden garden swing when it collapsed. Joan suffered a blood clot to her leg and the injury was so severe that a doctor said it was as bad as if she had been in a car crash.
