Kids learn of dangers on building site

THE DANGERS of a building site were brought vividly to life for youngsters of a Hucknall school who were invited to take a closer look at a housing development in the town.

With heavy machinery and construction equipment at every turn, sites like the ongoing Papplewick Green development by David Wilson Homes, off Papplewick Lane, can be hazardous places — especially for children who shouldn’t be there.

That’s why the housing firm invited 60 pupils from nearby Leen Mills Primary for a guided educational tour, aimed at promoting safety.

Children also got the chance to try their hand at bricklaying, met David Wilson mascot, Wellington the dog, and asked several questions about the housebuilding industry.

They have also been asked to take part in a competition to design a poster promiting building-site safety.
