Kirkby driver panicked after he was stopped by police

Lee Jamie Peters, 37 limped into Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to hear of his fate after admitting failing to stop his car for a policeman and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Magistrates heard Peters was spotted driving with a flat tyre on Priestsic Road, Sutton on December 5 and pulled over by police.

But as officers arrived at his car he drove away.

Peters later parked up and ran off, but the court heard he was pursued and ‘detained’ by a police dog.

He admitted failing to provide a breath specimen at the roadside and a specimen for analysis in hospital where he was treated for two puncture wounds and bruising to his leg and buttocks.

The court heard Peters suffered from brittle bones and broke his pelvis during the incident.

The remorseful father of two who already had six points on his license told police he had drunk two pints of lager on the night of his arrest.

His job as a scrap collector depended on his driving and he had panicked when he was stopped.

He said he had been unable to use the Breathalyser due to his pain and frustration with the situation.

Peters was disqualified from driving for 18 months, fined £110 with £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
