Last chance for cannabis addict

Shane Paylor (27), of Lime Tree Road, pleaded guilty to charges concerning the possession of and production of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis with intent to supply.

But he was spared jail by Recorder David Mason QC when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court.

“I suspect you came to court today expecting to be sent to prison,” Recorder Mason told Paylor.

“You seem to have taken steps to stop smoking cannabis, which is what got you in this mess in the first place.

“I am very sorry also to hear that you and your partner lost a baby in December, which must have had a traumatic effect.

“Locking you up, while some might say is thoroughly deserved, would undo what you have been doing to sort yourself out.

“These offences merit a prison sentence, but I will suspend that sentence. This is your last chance.”

Paylor was handed a two-year jail term, suspended for two years, during which time he must be supervised by probation officers. He was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community.”

Andrew Tanser (prosecuting) told the court that cannabis with a street value of £3,240, plus a total of £925 cash, was found at Paylor’s home during two raids on Friday 25th October last year and Wednesday 26th February this year.

In the first raid, eight bags, containing a total of 186.3 grams (just over six ounces) of cannabis, were found in a bedroom -- on a desk, in a wardrobe and in an open safe.

In the second raid, a total of 161 grams of cannabis was found in tubs and bags in Paylor’s living room, bedroom and a garden shed, plus cash.

The court was told he had been using drugs from an early age.
