THE LATEST candidate to throw his hat into the ring to become the new police commissioner for the Dispatch district and the rest of Nottinghamshire is Labour councillor Cchris Winterton.
Coun Winterton is a member of Notts County Council and has represented residents of Mansfield for the last 25 years.
He will stand in an election in November. Among his rivals will be former Hucknall Labour MP Paddy Tipping.
The newly-created post will effectively be the face of law and order in the county. The successful candidate will have responsibility for setting strategies and budgets, and appointing and dismissing chief constables.
Coun Winterton was previously chairman of the county’s Police Authority.
