Lib Dems accuse police of ‘corruption’ over Zadrozny arrest.

A leading Liberal Democrat figure has accused Nottinghamshire Police of political bias after making a formal complaint to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Ashfield Lib Demo campaign organiser Dave Hennigan told Chad he has made a formal complaint to the police watchdog after officers seized computer equipment during the recent general and local election campaigns, relating to historical sex abuse allegations.

Mr Hennigan has claimed that all their local election material, including their full local election campaign, were on personal laptops belonging to himself, which police seized over allegations against former Parliamentary Candidate Jason Zadrozny, who has won a district council seat as an independent.

He added that police had been aware of the allegations made against Mr Zadrozny for up to three years, but waited until his parliamentary election campaign had started before bringing him in for questioning.

He said: “I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I genuinely believe someone from Nottinghamshire Police didn’t want us to win in the elections.

“I believe there is a case for corruption on their behalf, as the timing of the whole episode was disgraceful.

“I believe they’ve purposefully waited until the build up to the elections to make their move.

“They’ve known about the claims against Jason for three years, and they’ve left it under the bed until now. It doesn’t take rocket science to work out their motives.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “Nottinghamshire Police can confirm that it received a formal complaint submitted on behalf of Ashfield Liberal Democrats on Wednesday 20 May.

“Our Professional Standards Department will refer the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for a decision on how the complaint is to be investigated.

“Until that investigation has been completed, the force cannot comment on the allegations made by the complainant.”

The IPCC confirmed that they have received a voluntary referral from the constabulary.

Mr Zadrozny has been arrested over the allegations and is currently on police bail. He has not been charged and denies the allegations.
