CHILDREN from primary schools across Hucknall are being encouraged to take up the challenge of continuing to read during the school summer holidays.
As the long break approaches, Notts County Council’s library service, in conjunction with leading children’s authors, have launched a Summer Reading Challenge to inspire youngsters to pick up a book just for fun.
“The Summer Reading Challenge is brilliant,” said Helena Pielichaty, children’s author and chairman of the Children’s Illustrators and Writers’ Group, which campaigns to encourage reading for pleasure in schools.
“This will help keep the momentum going throughout the holidays in a fun way that involves the whole family.”
The initiative is focused on libraries, including Hucknall’s on Market Place. It is open to youngsters aged from four to 11, who will win rewards for completing various challenges, which run from Saturday July 14 to Monday September 10.
