Redundancy notices has been sent out to staff at camping and outdoor specialists Yeoman’s Outdoor Leisure, which is based in the Idlewells Shopping Centre.

It is not yet known exactly when the shop will shut its doors for the final time.

Manager Terry Blake said the news had not been a surprise.

He said: “Over the years a lot of the smaller shops have gone in Hucknall, Alfreton and Ripley. They seem to be moving towards larger stores.

“After all the years in Sutton it seems a bit of a shame to close it.

“The shop makes it pay - if we were making a loss I could say so be it, but it is hard when you know you are giving the people of Sutton a good service.”

It is understood the shop is to be converted into a £1 type bargain shop.

Idlewells Centre manager Andrew Wraight said: “The management team at Idlewells Shopping Centre is constantly in discussions with potential new retailers and cannot comment on any specific detail of these discussions until they have been agreed with all parties involved.

“We always strive to ensure that all of our loyal retailers are given every opportunity and encouragement to remain in the centre, should a move be on the cards for whatever reason.”

Established in 1904 with more than 70 stores, the firm is the UK’s largest independent camping and outdoor retailer.
