Lottery cash joy for Mansfield Bolsover and Sherwood projects

Mansfield Bolsover and Sherwood areas will benefit from a £2.3 million Big Lottery Fund cash boost for the East Midlands.

Around £2.3 million from the Big Lottery Fund will be shared amongst East Midlands organisations.

Today’s funding will support local organisations to help improve their local communities and the lives of people most in need.

Projects to be funded include:

Mansfield Primary Academy receives £10,000 to create an outdoor learning centre. This will enable children and people from the local community to take part in extra curricular gardening activities.

Berry Hill Primary School, Mansfield has been awarded £765 to buy a shed for a play area to encourage pupils to engage in healthy and active physical activity.

Kings Clipstone Village Council has been awarded £10,000 for the Kings Clipstone Development Plan. The group will use the funding to deliver a neighbourhood plan for the rural village community. This wil develop a long term vision for development of the are based on the needs of the community.

Lighthouse Homes group (Bolsover) has been awarded £9,390 to run a programme of training activities in furniture restoration and life skills for homeless people.

Browxtowe Men in Sheds has been awarded £5450 to increase the impact of the project providing activities for lonely and isolated older people.

Nottingham’s Hope Community Services receives £297,081 for its crisis intervention programme to enable homeless people to move into accommodation.

Staff will work intensively with people to help overcome barriers such as drug and alcohol misuse and support them with anger management and improving their mental health.

A support worker will be allocated to people and will set up an initial meeting where they can discuss issues before they develop a plan of action and support them through it.

Services will be provided across the county including Mansfield, Sherwood, Bolsover, Bassetlaw and Newark.

Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund England grant making director said: “Whether it is supporting homeless people to get a more permanent roof over their heads or helping women break away from domestic abuse, these projects will make a huge difference to the lives of many. They are excellent examples of local people working together to help others in their community to build on the skills they have and maximise their potential.”

Today’s awards have been made through the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All and Reaching Communities programmes. Awards for All provides grants between £300 and £10,000 to voluntary and community organisations and Reaching Communities awards larger grants of £10,000 and above.
