Lottie hits 100 with a party!

Lottie Monk, who is better known as Sis, held a party at Hazelgrove Care Home, where she was presented with a telegraph from the Queen and flowers and champagne from staff.

She shared her special recipe for home-made drizzle cake, which was made by her son-in-law.

Daughter Jennifer Marriott said: “She was born at Woodstock Street, Hucknall, in 1914. Her maiden name was Machin and she had three brothers and two sisters. Her father was a colliery train repairer. On leaving school at 14 she worked in service to a local doctor and later became a hosiery machinist at Meridian.

“She married her husband Edward at the General Baptist Chapel in 1942, and their only child Jennifer was born in 1948.

“Although her husband was disabled through polio they eventually acquired a motor scooter and travelled all over the UK and Europe. She did a lot of work for the British Polio Fellowship and was an excellent cook and cake maker, loved dress making and embroidery.

“In 1983 Lottie was diagnosed with cancer and given six months to live. She decided to become a guinea pig which succeeded in a cure being found and other lives saved.

“She is a very brave lady and her family are immensely proud of her.”
