The thefts took place in the Nottingham and Long Eaton areas throughout March and April, and officers said they have now executed a warrant in the Bulwell area yesterday (Thursday, April 28) which led to a 35-year-old man being arrested on suspicion of theft.
British Transport Police said: "We have made an arrest in our investigation into a series of thefts of railway signalling cable in the Nottingham and Long Eaton areas in March and April.
"The thefts resulted in significant delays to passengers in the East Midlands."
Detective Inspector Gareth Davies from BTP added: “Our investigation into this theft is ongoing. Officers are continuing to patrol the areas targeted and we are still interested in hearing from anyone with any information about the thefts."
The man, who was arrested on suspicion of theft, has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
