Man charged in National Tyres robbery

A Bradford man has appeared before magistrates charged in connection with a robbery which left a Mansfield man with life-threatening injuries.

William Doran (32) of Larwood Close, Bradford, appeared before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 3rd July) charged with causing grievous bodily harm, robbery, dangerous driving and driving with no insurance.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 24th June, at National Tyres, in Chesterfield Road South when a light-coloured BMW 4x4 vehicle belonging to employee Carl Denny was stolen.

Mr Denny suffered serious head injuries in the incident and is still recovering in hospital, the court heard.

Dressed in a black vest top and jeans, Doran etered no plea at the 30-minute hearing.

He was remanded in custody until 17th July, when he is set to appear before Nottingham Crown Court.

A 47-year-old man from Leeds has also been arrested in connection with the incident.

He remains in custody pending further investigation work, a police spokesman said after the hearing.
