Man dies after '˜naked' arrest

A man has died in hospital after an incident in Bulwell.

Police were called to the Holwood Court area on Tuesday morning after reports of damage to property and vehicles were reported.

When they arrived they arrested a man and called for an ambulance due to concerns over his health.

A spokesman said: “Nottinghamshire Police received a report at around 10.40am about a man whose behaviour was giving cause for concern in Holwood Court in Bulwell.

“Officers attended and the man was arrested.

“Due to concerns for his health, an ambulance was also called.

“The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, but died shortly after his arrival there.

“His death is not believed to be suspicious. No one else was injured, but some damage to property, including vehicles, has been reported.

“The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

“This is standard practice following the death of any person after their arrest.”

Nottinghamshire police said they could not say whether the unidentified man was injured before or after he was arrested as an investigation is ongoing.

On Tuesday night, police cordons were still in place while a forensics team searched several areas.

Matt Farmer, of Newmarket Road, said: “Something very serious must have happened for him to have died.

“He came running naked out of the house which is not what you expect.

“It isn’t what you want the kids who are on half-term to see. The police have been all over the place all day - but I am not shocked because this is Bulwell and it happens.”

Engineer,- Richard Ngangulu, was not allowed to return to his home while police carried out their investigation.

He said: “I have been living here 10 years and I have never seen anything like this happen before.

“The police won’t let me in my home and won’t say when I can get in.

“All I know is that there was someone running around banging and smashing everything. It’s crazy.”
