Man spared jail after drunken night time attack in Mansfield town centre

A Sutton man who assaulted two men in a drunken night time attack in Mansfield town centre has escaped a jail sentence.

Jeffrey Robert Mayes of Lime Street Sutton appeared for sentencing at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to punching two men in Mansfield town centre on 8th March.

The court was told Mayes, 30 attacked the men after they intervened in a drunken argument he was having with his partner on Regent Street.

Mayes, who apologised to the court, was given a 12 month community order with unpaid work of 150 hours and ordered to pay a total of £150 compensation to the men, costs of £85 and £60 victim surcharge.
