Mansfield and Ashfield men arrested in burglary crackdown

Five men have been arrested and charged in connection with a series of burglaries in the county.

Operation Permute was launched following a number of burglaries in the Mansfield and Ashfield areas.

The operation was set up to ensure offenders coming into these areas to commit crime were targeted. This works through partnership with Roads Policing Units, Nottinghamshire County Council, local authorities and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue. The number of Police Officers and PCSOs patrolling the areas has also been doubled.

So far several offenders have been charged in connection with burglaries. On 10 October 2013 Gareth Davis, 32, of Spinney Close, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, was charged with two burglaries – one at Crocus Street in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and one at Nesbitt Street in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

On 31st October David Rowe (24), of Alexander Avenue, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, and a 17-year-old from Selston were charged with a series of dwelling burglaries across Selston including break ins at Lindley Street, St Helens Drive, Alfreton Road, Walters Crescent and Crescent Road.

On 8th November Adam Leach (31), from Carter Lane, Mansfield, was charged with two dwelling burglaries and a garage burglary at Darwin Close and Abbeydale Drive, in Mansfield.

On 10th November 2013 Simon Pridmore (37), of Bishop Street, Mansfield, was charged with an attempted burglary at West Bank Wynd, in Mansfield.

Detective Inspector Phil Sims said: “Coming home from work to find your house has been broken into is one of the most upsetting experiences anyone can suffer and I know this from dealing with numerous victims of house burglaries.

“Losing high value electrical items with personal data on them is a worry and we all must make sure our information is password protected and encrypted. We are doing everything we can to tackle this type of crime and make our communities safe and our operation is already seeing success.

“We will also be targeting people who are selling and buying stolen goods. This is an offence for which the courts can impose custodial sentences. Please let us know if you suspect anyone involved in stolen property.”

Operation Permute runs in tandem with the Force’s Darker Nights burglary prevention campaign.

As the nights get darker earlier leave a light on inside your house. Remember to choose low energy lamps.

Use a timer switch to operate the lights as it starts to get dark. Change the times that the lights come on to simulate an occupied home.

Make sure your front door is well lit. Use dusk to dawn lighting that automatically comes on as it gets dark.

Make sure you keep your doors and windows locked at all times.
