Christmas shoppers came along to enjoy seasonal songs from the Create Christmas Choir, who were raising funds for the Little Princess Trust charity, and browsed a range of market stalls for gifts.

Featuring over twenty stalls, the market saw students selling yuletide goodies such as Christmas puddings and greetings cards, novelty gifts, sweets and jams in the college’s new covered courtyard at the Derby Road campus.

All products were handmade by students as part of entrepreneurial projects while on their courses and all profits made from the market will be investing back into each business initiative, a college spokesman said.

Also at the market were staff from the college’s Revive salon who were selling vouchers for treatments at the Derby Road-based hairdressing and beauty salons, while staff from the health and welfare team were on hand to give advice to students about being safe and healthy during the Christmas holidays.

Foundation studies learners collected money to donate to the Cat’s Protection League and representatives from Help For Heroes also collected for the military charity.

Spokesman Cate Hunt said: “Our enterprising students worked so hard both on making and presenting their products and organising the market day.”
