Mansfield firm Carver on Antiques Roadshow

A master carver who helps create bespoke masterpieces for a Mansfield chair maker has been invited to appear on the Antique Roadshow Christmas special.

Glyn Mould, who works for Nigel Coupe Chairmaker at Pleasley Vale scored a hit on the long running BBC series with his ‘Political Chair’ which satirised the MPs expenses scandal.

The presenters were so impressed with Glyn’s skills they invited him back onto the show for the Christmas special to appear with presenter Fiona Bruce.

Glyn said: “I have been in busines for 30 years and I decided to make a political Chair or seat to celebrate MPs getting caught out . When the MPs expenses scandal broke everybody was angry and I thought I would make something to record the historicla happening, which people will be able to look at long after I’m dead and gone.”

The chair shows the three party leaders caught with their pants down and carvings to represent politicians ‘flipping’ their houses.

Nigel Mould said: “I met Glyn when he was demonstrating his work at an Art in Action exhibition and I was very impressed.

“He is able to capture perfectly a person’s face or a pet or a scene and transfer it onto wood.

“I was looking for a wood carver and he was just the man to carve my bespoke range of chairs. It will be great to see him on TV again - his political chair caused quite a stir.”
