Mansfield Library hosts pop-up exhibition

Budding artists from West Nottinghamshire College visited their pop-up exhibition at Mansfield Library.

Set in the library’s first floor exhibition space, the Extended Diploma Art and Design students together with the Foundation Art and Design students, are showcasing a selection of their coursework for just one week.

On display until Sunday 6 April, the exhibition features photography, painting, print work, textiles and drawing and design all produced during their courses.

Sixteen-year-old Joseph Norris is not only exhibiting his work at the town centre-based library but he’s also awaiting to hear if he’s been successful in being picked to feature on a new six-part BBC young artist programme.

The BBC’s competition is looking for amateur painters from all over the UK who have a passion for painting and drawing and can work with a variety of figurative forms and media – from landscape, portraiture, watercolour, oil and charcoal.

Joseph said: “This self-portrait is one of the pieces I’ve submitted to the BBC for the programme and it took me around 22 hours to produce in oil pastels using an enlarged photograph.

“I’m just waiting to hear if I’ve been selected to appear on the programme which is quite exciting. In the future I’m hoping to become a commission artist.”

The public can still see Joseph and his colleagues’ work at the exhibition at Mansfield Library until Sunday. The library is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm and Saturday 9.00am to 4.00pm and Sunday 11.00am to 3.00pm.
