Matthew Bowler, 27, of Empire Street, admitted drinking three pints of lager after work before driving his Citreon C2 on April 25, at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

He lost control of the car after driving through a standing pool of water and shunted the recovery vehicle into another car on Pecks Hill.

A breath test revealed he has 59 microgrammes of alcohol on 100 mililitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35.

Mary Dixon, mitigating, told the court Bowler worked at his father’s garage and his disqualification would have an impact on the family business.

Magistrates fined him £350, with costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £35. He was banned from driving for 14 months.
