Mansfield offender with 80 court appearances jailed for ASBO breach

A Mansfield man is behind bars after breaching an Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO) he was given just last week.

Lee Wightman, of no fixed address, was banned from retail parks in the Mansfield area under a three-year ASBO granted at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday last week.

But yesterday (Sunday 8th June) the 39-year-old was spotted by Police breaking into a car in Chaucer Street.

He was arrested and charged with theft from a motor vehicle and breach of his ASBO.

Wightman appeared before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday 9th June) and was sentenced to 33 weeks in prison.

Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Webster said: “Wightman has regularly been involved in abusive criminal behaviour both in Mansfield Town Centre and other local areas and he has been arrested on a number of occasions.

“We have worked hard, with our partners, to secure an ASBO against him and to help him change his ways. However, this recent behaviour, just days after his last court appearance, shows he has no interest in acting within the law and the District Judge in this case had little option but to give him a custodial sentence.

“I hope this shows how seriously we treat ASBOs and offenders who plague our communities”
