Mansfield woman attempts to turn her ‘local’ pink for charity

A Mansfield woman is leading a charity venture to turn her local pink in a bid to battle cancer for good.

Andrea Rigley was diagnosed with breast cancer but has now been in remission for five years.

To celebrate she is turning the Bowl In Hand, on Leeming Street, into a pink palace for everyone who has been affected by cancer.

The 51-year-old is urging the public and businesses to turn out in force and buy a pink square, which they can write a private message on, to cover the brickwork on 20th March.

“The day we are holding the event is the day I came out of remission.

“We were just going to decorate the inside of the pub with pink ribbons, balloons and decorations but then it spiralled and now we are plastering the outside of the pub pink too.

People will be able to turn up on the day and pin their squares on the outside of the pub to support loved ones,” Andrea said.

Pink squares can be brought on the day from the pub for £5.99.

All money raised will go to Breast Cancer Care or Cancer Support.

There will also be karaoke in the evening and pink dress is compulsory.

Andrea added: “I think it will be a first for Mansfield to try and turn an entire pub pink.

“We want to raise as much money as possible while also raising awareness and thanking all the staff and volunteers who care for those with cancer.”
