An inspirational son has set himself a daunting challenge of running three marathons in consecutive weekends - as well as holding a charity football match at Hucknall Town.
Andy Leslie will take part in energy-sapping events in Worcester and Manchester before tackling the world famous London Marathon on 26th April.
The 29 year old, who works as a radiographer at hospitals across the country is raising money for the Bowel & Cancer Research charity, based at the Royal London Hospital.
His father Peter (64) is a bowel cancer survivor, who was first diagnosed with the disease in 2004 when Andy was studying at the University of Derby. He said: “It was tough to see dad like that - I continued my degree but it was hard when I came back to visit and saw that he had lost weight or was different to how he looked before.”
Peter was eventually given the all-clear about five years later and has regular check-ups, as does Andy himself, as the family has a history of developing cancer. He added: “Without the support and research that the Bowel & Cancer Research charity does, I am sure he would not have been able to make sure a quick recovery.”
To help with his fundraising efforts, Andy is holding a football match with friends from Nottingham and Essex at Hucknall Town FC’s Watnall Road Ground on 21st February, followed by a raffle and charity auction. He is hoping to raise at least £1,000. To sponsor him visit www.justgiving.com/Andyleslie3in3/
