Marathon men in Robin Hood race

Former Stags trainee Jamie Walker was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005. He got the all-clear two years later, but the family embarked on a fundraising fest that has so far raised over £100,000 for various charities.

Now Jamie’s brother has begun his own fundraising to help boost the funds further.

“Ross has started running and decided to enrol in his first half marathon and add to what we already do,” explained dad Phil, who used to play for Chesterfield. “Two of his colleagues from the British Transport Police joined him.”

Ross completed the 13 mile course in two hours 35mins but was beaten to the line by Darren Heithus in two hours 20mins and Jamie Davies who completed in one hour 35mins.

“Ross was gutted he came in last out of the three of them and will have a forfeit to do as punishment,” joked Phil. “He has been getting some stick at work too.”

The group have raised over £500 so far for King’s Mill Haemotology Ward and Ross is hoping to continue the fundraising with more marathons in the future.

The family are synonymous with a charity football match which is held each year and is already busy planning the celebrity match for next year to continue their fundraising efforts.

“Jamie has been in remission for eight years now and although he has to return to King’s Mill for checks every six months we celebrate every day,” added Phil. “
