Memorial for caring Craig

Craig Ashley Orme, of Elder Street, Kirkby, was riding his moped on Kirkby Road, Sutton when he was in a collision with a lorry and car in September 2015.

He was taken straight to Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre but never regained consciousness and died as a result of his injuries.

His colleagues at Willowcroft Nursing Home are planning a walk from Teversal Visitors Centre to Pleasley Pit Visitors Centre and back again on July 2 .

Alongside his family, they wish to raise money for a permanent memorial at his workplace. Any excess money raised will be used to fund activities for the residents he worked with.

His mum Beverley Orme said she was overwhelmed by the tribute to Craig.

She said: “He loved his friends, he loved his family and he loved his job. I’m very proud of him.

“I am absolutely overwhelmed with what Lisa and the guys are doing at Willowcroft - it will be spectacular.”

Mother of three Beverley, who is also a care worker, added: “I am still counting the days since he died - it is 286 now.

“Every day is absolutely traumatic, some days we sit and cry, sometimes we just want to be quiet on our own.

“People don’t like talking about it, they are afraid of hurting us, but Craig was a big part of everybody’s life .

“He was there for everybody and always had a cheery way about him.”

The walk starts at 3pm at Teversal Visitors Centre and will go to Pleasley pit visitors centre where the cafe will open for refreshments.

It will then head back to Teversal visitors centre.

Participants can walk, cycle or ride their horses and there will be someone leading each category.
