Memorial fun day for Sarah raises £2,400

Friends of Sarah Redfern launched 150 balloons in her memory at a fun day at Mansfield's Pop Inn to raise money for her memorial.

A fun day held at the Pop Inn at Mansfield on Saturday was attended by hundreds of people who took part in a host of events and activities.

Organiser Megan Blair, said; “It all went really well and the place was packed all day. We will give the money to Sarah’s family so they can decide a fitting memorial for her.

The event which ran from noon to 6pm culminated in a release of 150 balloons in Sarah’s memory.

Sarah died last August after she was hit by a car as she walked home from a night out.

Megan Blair said: “Sarah was a beautiful person inside and out with a loving family, many friends and a son who she was devoted to.

“We wanted to create something to give her the memorial she deserves.

“It could be a plaque, a bench or even a water feature if we raise enough money.

“We have been amazed by how much people have given us for prizes in raffles competitions and auctions on the day.”

Megan said she had been touched and moved by the generosity of businesses which have donated valuable prizes.

Prizes included three cut and blow dries at hairdressers, a meal for two at a restaurant, a ‘super -car day’ at a Nottingham venue, free MOT tests, a one night stay in a Matlock hotel,

Laser Quest tickets,comedy club tickets and several food hampers.

Sarah’s sister Emma Redfern posted: “I would just like to thank everyone for yesterday to everyone that helped and to everyone who came and was involved. It was perfect. We have raised a whooping £2400 and that is amazing so thank you all again when we know what the memorial will be.”
