Having worked together all year on key issues, 400 hundred members of Maun Valley Citizens plan to meet with representatives of local government, including Coun Martin Lee, Coun Kate Allsop, and Nottingham’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping as well as other district and county councillors.

The meeting, which is by invitation only, will take place on Monday 20th April at Vision West Notts College where Dame Asha Khemka will welcome delegates to the college before local head teachers and ministers introduce the agenda of “Loneliness, Safety, and Jobs”.

Mansield vicar Keith Hebden, Chairman of the leadership team said: “As a church leader, but also as a parent, I’m excited to think what can be achieved when we work together for the common good.

“Elections are not democracy itself; they are an event in democracy.

“We want to rise above the politicking and make democracy an everyday action for our member institutions.”

Te group’s agenda is lobbying for support for the Living Wage with rates relief for Mansfield businesses, Young People’s Jobs Summit with Maun Valley Citizens, to develop work experience opportunities with stipends and expenses.

Other issues include increasing safety outside schools, and working on initiatives recommended by school councils.

Launch a Loneliness Strategy for Mansfield, informed by civil society and their expertise.

Local schools have been working on safety issues on roads around the schools themselves and for cleaner, safer parks.

The assembly will be voting on whether to back a campaign asking Coun Diane Meale to help get £3 million more investment from the County Council Pension fund invested locally.

They say less than one per cent of the £3bn pension pot is invested in the county itself.
