MP Allen wants more going to university

BULWELL’s Labour MP Graham Allen met with head teachers of local primary schools to discuss ways of getting more young people from the area into university.

Along with Mr Allen and about 20 head teachers was Nottingham University vice-chancellor, Professor David Greenaway.

The MP said university should remain open to all, even though the government was making changes to the education system. He said: “Improving levels of participation in university must start from a young age by the improvement of attainment at primary and secondary level.”

Also at the meeting was talented archer Kate Moss, to give the head teachers a taste of the famous Nottingham bow-and-arrow tradition with a view to developing it at primary-school level.
