MP names homes first identified in Chad probe

Mr Mann went on the record this week and named Laybrook in Mansfield and Skegby Hall in Ashfield - as well as Ashley House in Worksop.

All three homes featured prominently in Chad’s initial investigation into abuse in homes in North Nottinghamshire.

Additionally, Mr Mann also revealed that he had been contacted by former residents at Repton Lodge, near Worksop.

He said: “There have been a large number of new allegations made in the last fortnight that historic child abuse took place at several local children’s homes.”

“Confidentiality is guaranteed for everyone who has come forward and I have passed on information to the police. I will continue to work with victims and the police to get to the truth.”

The revelation comes after Home Secretary Teresa May was forced to apologise after the second chairman of the Government’s inquiry into historical abuse was forced to quit.

Fiona Woolf resigned on Friday, saying victims did not have confidence in her due to her social links to ex-Home Secretary Lord Brittan, whose handling of abuse claims in the 1980s has been questioned.

Predecessor Baroness Butler-Sloss resigned four months ago, also over her links with the establishment.
