Mum-to-be back before court

A heavily pregnant woman who appeared in court earlier this year charged with drink driving has been brought back before magistrates for not paying her fine.

Karina Bingley (38), of Church Road, Clipstone Village, was fined £274, and ordered to pay a £27 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs when she appeared before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court in April.

She was also banned from driving for 12 months and a repayment plan was arranged - allowing the expectant mother to pay the fine in instalments.

But Bingley was summoned back to court on Thursday 24th July for not making any repayments, despite numerous efforts to contact her by court staff.

The court was told that Bingley has been spoken to on 21st May and expressed an intention to pay her fines off monthly, but when no money was forthcoming a warrant was issued on 30th June.

Bingley told magistrates that she was experiencing a difficult pregnancy and was currently in receipt of statutory sick pay and did not have the money to pay the court instalments.

The court was told that Bingley was also having to pay to travel on the bus to hospital appointments, as well as paying for lunches and trips for her three dependant children.

Magistrates ordered her to pay her first £10 instalment within 21 days.
