NATIONAL BLACK CAT DAY: Can you help re-home one of these unwanted black moggies?

According to some animal welfare charities, black and white cats are becoming more unpopular, despite many believing them to bring good luck, with 13 per cent staying longer in rescue centres than other cats.

The sanctuary, on Todwick Road, North Anston, which also cares for and re-homes unwanted and abandoned dogs, horses and other small animals, is now urging residents to consider looking after one of their nine black or black and white cats.

Sheila Underwood, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary’s cattery manager, said: “Usually the gingers or tortoiseshells find a new home first but our black cats are just as beautiful and loving members of the family. People should come down to Thornberry to meet Treacle and Pudding and Cilla and the rest of the gang to fall in love for themselves.”

Jessica Underwood, cattery assistant at the sanctuary, said: “These two beautiful five-year old sisters (Treacle and pudding) have been with us since February and are desperately looking for a home where they can snuggle up together.”

People interested in re-homing one of Thornberry’s cats, or other animals in need of a new home, are invited to visit the sanctuary during its opening hours 11am-3pm, Tuesday – Sunday.
