National Grid employees climb Nottinghamshire pylon for Macmillan Cancer Support
The fundraiser, which took place on June 4, saw eight National Grid employees climb a 150-foot pylon at their Eakring training academy.
Climbing electricity pylons is normally part of the job for National Grid engineers, but Stephanie Hazell is the Corporate Strategy and Business Development Director and her team are more used to having their feet on the ground.

She said: “It was an amazing experience – exhausting, exhilarating and just a little terrifying!
“Even more amazing, though, was the generous response from colleagues, family and friends – the fundraising target has far exceeded our expectations.”
Stephanie had a tumour in her leg when she was younger and says that everyone has been touched by cancer in some way. She is pleased that the money they raised will help towards caring for people with the illness.
Local resident, National Grid employee and fellow-climber Mark Pearce found it to be a big challenge and said it was for a “great cause”.

Climbers took full safety precautions and were accompanied by qualified engineers throughout the event.
National Grid reminds the public of the dangers of climbing pylons and warns them not to try it at home.
Staff at the company are aiming to raise half a million pounds for Macmillan over the next few years.
