New £6.8m council housing scheme for older people opens in Hucknall

Building work on Darlison Court on Spring Street has only recently been completed and now residents are thrilled to be settling into their new homes.

The affordable housing scheme, created in partnership with Nottinghamshire Council and built by Wilmott Dixon Housing, offers 39 one- and two-bedroom modern and accessible homes.

District Councillor Keir Morrison said: “I’m delighted that we are able to increase our council housing provision, which is much needed.

“It’s fantastic to have such a high quality development in Hucknall providing a modern, safe and friendly environment for older people.”

The development of Darlison Court is one of a number of projects focused on developing council properties in Ashfield

Each home is completely self-contained and all benefit from access to the onsite communal facilities such as a shared lounge area overlooking the stream, which runs through the site.

Coun Morrison added: “The scheme has been specially designed to offer energy-efficient, affordable homes for older people to suit their particular needs.

“Residents are at the heart of this development and this is a moment of celebration for them and everyone who has been involved.”

Alice Hallam, 80, moved into her new two-bedroomed, ground-floor flat in August, and said: “I love it here. It’s so well designed and built. The flat is spacious and light. I can sit in my living room and see everything outside.

“There’s always someone to talk to and everyone is so helpful—you can ask for anything and I always feel safe.”
