A new clothes shop for women has opened on Annesley Road in Hucknall.
The I Candy Boutique aims to bring ‘affordable and stylish’ clothing to local shoppers but is also something of a family tradition as owner Lynnette Scott’s great-grandfather Percy Jeffrey had a shoe shop on the street in the early 1950’s.
Lynnette (34), of Newstead Village, said: “I have always found if you want affordable, stylish, on-trend day, evening, clubbing and occasional wear, you would need to make a trip to Nottingham.
“As a mum I understand it is not always possible to make that trip with children and it would be great to pop down to your local town and pick up something special to wear.
“I hope to bring a bit of Nottingham to Hucknall and hope that I have something for everyone whatever age, size or occasion.
“I want my boutique to be a pleasant experience where everyone feels comfortable. When I have gone shopping with my mum we have had to leave the dressing room to show each other what we are wearing and struggled to get push chairs in the cubical so at I Candy I have made a whole back room into a large dressing room where you can comfortably try your items on whoever you are with.”
Entrepreneurial Lynnette started making clothes at the age of 13, after watching her mum and grandmother on the sewing machine, and sold scrunchy bobbles at school for pocket money.
After she was made redundant from a sale job for a drinks company she enrolled in college to gain more qualifications and skills and boost her confidence.
She said: “My future plans are to allow people from anywhere in the UK to order online and have their items sent to them.
“I will also soon be stocking shoes, more prom dresses and hair accessories and extensions. I also hope to introduce an alteration service.”
