The councillor for Bulwell has recently been announced as the new Lord Mayor of Nottingham.
Cllr Jackie Morris, the former Sheriff of Nottingham, was elected at the end of May, and insists she wants to ‘continue the good work’ she carried out as Sheriff.
The new Lord Mayor told the Dispatch: “I’m very honoured to be the first lady of Nottingham.
“My aim is to continue the good work we carried out last term when I was Sheriff, with regards to encouraging investment of the city.
“We will be holding the official handover on July 4, followed by a parade to the castle, where we will hold a fun day for everybody to come along and enjoy.
“We will start in the market square at 11am.”
Councillor Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, believes that cllr Morris is the right woman to take on the role as Mayor.
He said: “Jackie is a councillor who is very much in touch with the community she serves and has just completed a year as Sheriff of Nottingham.
“I’m confident that she will take those experiences and prove to be a great success in her new role.”
