New lunch clubs for town

The first club has already opened its doors at Willingham Court, on Oak Tree Lane, where lunches are served every Thursday at 12 noon at the cost of £3 for a dinner and pudding.

The second club will start at Roston Court, also on Oak Tree Lane, on 21st July. Eventually, it is hoped that the service will be offered to all of the council’s nine Assist Sheltered Housing Complexes around the district.

The luncheon clubs are a joint venture between Mansfield District Council’s Assist Service and the Rumbles Catering Project. Rumbles is a charity organisation, which provides employment for disadvantaged young people and adults.

The project already runs two successful community cafes at Vicar Water Country Park, Clipstone, and Sutton Lawn Pleasure Grounds, Sutton.

Coun Mick Colley, portfolio holder for tenancy services and special housing needs at Mansfield District Council, said: “The luncheon clubs will offer fresh produce that has been sourced locally at affordable prices for everyone.

“This partnership with the Rumbles Catering Project will help the council to promote healthy eating to our most vulnerable people, while at the same time addressing problems of loneliness and isolation.

“We want tenants to get out and meet people and enjoy a nutritious meal at the same time.”
