Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping, made this announcement during a ‘walkabout’ in Bulwell town centre.

He said: “It is no secret that we are looking at developing a new hi-tech police station in Bulwell, although I need to stress that no definite decision has yet been made.”

Bulwell’s present police station on Coventry Road was formerly the site of the Sporting Chance at the Red Lion pub.

One suggested site for the replacement is the nearby former Nottingham City Council housing office, which was closed when the service moved to the new Riverside Centre.

Mr Tipping was accompanied on the walk by Bulwell police commander Insp Andy Goodall and Sgt Christine Busuttil, as well as Coun Jackie Morris, a Labour member for Bulwell ward on the city council, and her husband, the Rev Andy Morris.

They discussed the issues affecting the town during the tour of the town.

No stranger to Bulwell, Mr Tipping was once based there as a social worker and is an ex-Labour member for the area at the county council.

He said he was impressed by the job being done by the police in Bulwell, which is a popular shopping centre and has been described as the ‘capital of north Nottingham’.

“Most forces have seen a rise in shoplifting but I am very pleased to note that this is going down in Bulwell,” said Mr Tipping.
