New pool makes a big splash

The £217,000 pool has been opened at Stubbin Wood School’s nursery unit, in Burlington Avenue, which educated youngsters with learning needs alongside mainstream pupils.

The pool will be used by the whole community, including Brookfield Primary School, situated next to the nursery building, as well as mother-and-toddler groups and after-school clubs.

Headteacher Lee Floyd told Chad: ““It’s an honour to be opening this pool to the children and the community.

“Our pupils are very lucky to have access to the hydrotherapy pool at the main Stubbin Wood school site, in Common Lane, but younger pupils did not previously have this luxury.

“It’s important to me that our youngsters have access to the best facilities and the new splash pool gives them that.

“It’s a great size and a great asset to the school and the whole community – we can’t wait to get everyone involved.

“We are committed to making the nursery the best it can be - we want the best for the youngsters and the pool helps offer another dimension to the education we can offer.”

The majority of cash for the project was raised by parents, with the school making up the shortfall.
