A NEW store has opened on Hucknall High Street with the aim of making your money spread further during the economic downturn.

Poundstretcher (pictured) launched earlier this month in the former premises of the QS clothing shop.

The venture by the nationwide company has created nine new jobs. The manager is Matt Travers and the deputy manager is Jenny Downs.

The store offers a large range of discount items — from homeware to kitchenware and even a range of food.

Matt said: “People think it is a pound shop but it’s not. It’s Poundstretcher, the original discount store.

“On the day we opened, we were going to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony. But there were so many customers waiting to come in that we were forced to just open the doors.

“The response so far in Hucknall has been excellent. We are attracting customers of all ages.

“With financial times tough, it’s the perfect time to open.”

Poundstretcher was launched in 1981 and has more than 350 stores nationwide. Its motto is ‘Every Penny Counts’.
