New role for Ollerton academy’s principal

From January, Danny Smith will be moving into a position which will support the development of a new community organisation.

Mr Smith successfully led his school through its conversion to an academy in January this year, under the guidance of its sponsor, Academy Transformation Trust.

He will be now work alongside the incoming interim principal, Ian Barton, during December before moving into his new role in the new year.

Mr Barton brings extensive educational experience to his appointment at Dukeries, most recently as vice principal at Shelfield Community Academy in Walsall.

“I am very much looking forward to my new role and change in career direction,” said Mr Smith.

“While I have enjoyed enormously being principal, the chance to lead and develop new models for community further education delivery was too good an opportunity to turn down.”

Joyce Hodgetts, managing director of the trust said: “We wish Danny the best of luck in his new position and know he will be key to driving forward our vision of establishing the new community organisation focussed on the needs of Ollerton and surrounding area.

“Going forward the trust will work closely with the senior leadership team and the Governing Body to plan the way ahead.”

Stella Smedley, chairman of governors said: “We are very proud of The Dukeries Academy and it has become a national and international trendsetter.

“However, nothing should stand still and this change will move us forward to take even greater advantage and provide improved services to our community

“Danny has become an integral part of this and will be helping to lead once more on new innovation.”
