New signs to aid tourism

Visitors to Edwinstowe can find their way around the village more easily now and learn more about its history thanks to a revamp of seven information boards.

The boards on the Edwinstowe Village Trail have been re-vamped by the parish council with £5,000 funding from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Supporting Local Communities Fund.

The Edwinstowe Historical Society provided photographs and helped with wording. Information was also supplied by the Sherwood Forest Trust.

The trail delves into the history of the village and encourages people to visit the nearby Sherwood Forest Country Park to explore the surrounding local area.

“The new boards were installed in time for this year’s Robin Hood Festival which was held in Sherwood Forest,” said John Peck, Nottinghamshire County Councillor for Rufford.

As well as the trail, four new flags have designed to go on the nine lampposts along the village high street.

The flags represent Edwinstowe past and present with a modern take on medieval colours and design.

Celia Brooks, Chairman of Edwinstowe Parish Council, said; “We are absolutely delighted with the new boards. They are very informative and we hope that people will take note of them and be drawn on to the next one and so on, thereby learning more about our village.”

The latest Robin Hood Festival was very special as it celebrated 30 years entertaining visitors not only from across the county, but also across the country and the world.

Our legendary outlaw was there along with the usual sideshows for food, drink and entertainment, including jousting tournaments.
