New skate park planned for Bilsthorpe

Children and young people in Bilsthorpe are being encouraged to get out and play this summer thanks to a £50,000 grant which has been awarded to Bilsthorpe Parish Council for new play facilities in the area.

The cash boost has been given by WREN, a not for profit business which awards grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK from funds donated by FCC Environment to the Landfill Communities Fund.

Bilsthorpe Parish Council has contributed more than £20,000 from S106 monies, funding from housebuilders as part of open space improvement contributions from new housing developments.

Nottinghamshire County Council Local Improvement Scheme has also provided financial support for the project design and management.

The funding will be used to build a skate park, a project which was requested by young people who live in Bilsthorpe.

Coun Andrea Swallow, chairman of Bilsthorpe Parish Council, said “It is fantastic that WREN can make funds like this available to communities and we are very pleased our project was selected.

“Bilsthorpe Parish Council listened to the young people’s ideas and has been happy to contribute funding and co-ordinate the project.”.

John Peck, Chairman of Notts County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee said: “I’m delighted that the young people of Bilsthorpe is getting this great facility.

“There isn’t enough for young people to do in Bilsthorpe and that’s when bored youngsters can get into trouble.

The skate park will give them the opportunity to have fun and enjoy a healthy, outdoor activity.”
