The boards are now on display on 36 wards across Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s sites to reassure patients and visitors about a ward and its performance.

Information displayed includes the names and photos of the staff working on the ward, the number of patients to each nurse per shift and the times of daily rounds.

The key quality focus area identified for the month is stated as are statistics on falls, pressure ulcers and medication incidents.

The results of Friends and Family tests and complaints data is also displayed, as are recent actions taken as a direct result of patient feedback.

Susan Bowler, executive director of nursing, said: “Our new boards encourage staff pride in celebrating excellent patient care, while being open and honest as we identify areas for improvement.

“Providing relevant information at the point of care sets levels of expectation and ensures each ward is openly accountable for its own performance. We hope that this will encourage productive discussions between our staff, patients and visitors.”

Other trusts across the country have expressed an interest in copying the pioneering new idea.
