Newark and Sherwood: Young voters encouraged to register

Young people eligible to vote for the first time are among those being encouraged to ensure they are registered for next year’s elections.

Those in the Newark and Sherwood will be receiving their electoral registration forms through the post from this week.

Information is being updated ahead of next year’s European Parliament elections, with voters asked to return their details via internet, post, telephone or text without delay.

European Parliament elections were last contested in 2009 and will be held again on Thursday 22nd May next year.

“Registering to vote is quick and simple,” said Nigel Hill, business service manager for democratic services at Newark and Sherwood District Council. “All you have to do is update the annual canvass form with details of everyone who lives in the household and is eligible to vote. It’s your vote, don’t lose it.”First-time voters Lily Brambles, 18, and Jordan Frost, 17, (pictured) are among those who have already registered.

All registrations received by November 7 will be entered into a prize draw with gym membership, theatre tickets and supermarket vouchers among the prizes.
